Another Movie List

January 13, 2010 | General

Today I publish my long awaited list of the
ONE MOST UNDERRATED MOVIE OF THE DECADE

This was another tough one folks.  I poured through literally thousands of submissions this week, narrowed it down to the top 100, rewatched those movies and scored them on a weighted points system on a scale of 1 to 15, in the following categories:  quality, lasting value in the culture, “watchability”, lack of general awareness, poorness of marketing in original release and overall under-rated-ness.

Without further ado, the list:

1) THE TEN (2007)
dir. David Wain

  2. I agree.
Rob Courdry. Ken Marino. Prison scene. Incredible!

  3. I liked The Ten a lot, but I loved The Baxter and Wet Hot American Summer more. Still – I could see it again.

So in the last 10 minutes, I decided to do what you did – rewatched 100 movies, scored, and categorized to decide that my most underrated movie of TWO decades ago is: SOLARBABIES.

  4. I agree with this.

  5. It’s not underrated in my books (I’ve got some books). I love the damn thing!

  6. Please tell me you’re goofing.

  9. Another perfect example of Hollywood not being ready to accept a black director who is honest about race and human sexuality.

Here’s an example of a classic joke from The Ten:
    J.S.>> “Hey how’s it going?”
    G.M>> “Oh! I didn’t see you there”

I realize now that this joke relies heavily on visual stimuli but i think it still works in its written form.

  10. Agreed – I’ve watched it three times in the last month and made it my personal crusade to thumbs-down all negative reviews

  11. I couldn’t agree more.
As if Jessica Alba and Famke Janssen weren’t reason enough, you get to watch Winona Ryder fuck the shit out of a puppet (thank you, thank you).
    Oh yeah, it’s also funny.

(for your next movie could you have something like Emma Watson going down on a muppet? Or maybe Anne Hathaway riding a CPR dummy?….please, maybe?)

  12. 10000000% agree

  14. Underrated indeed, sir. Underrated INDEED!

By Titus on Jan 14, 2010

  15. Thank you for bringing awareness to this underrated film. I love it. The only way I can believe that it is so underrated is if it was done as a goof.

  16. was that movie even rated at all?

By xy on Jan 15, 2010

  17. Seriously! I try to recommend it whenever I can.

By Matthew on Jan 16, 2010

  19. Was #2 Wet Hot American Summer?

By Daniel on Jan 18, 2010

  20. agreed! i think maybe The Baxter belongs somewhere on this list, too. your performance in that one was… uh, mind-blowing?

By spencer drew bogart on Jan 18, 2010

  21. At the risk of sounding like I don’t get the joke, I totally agree. I make all my friends and family watch The Ten and they all LOVE it yet most have never heard of it. Don’t worry, I’m working to solve that problem.

    That’s what makes it rape

  22. I couldn’t agree more with your selection. The Ten is a MASTERPIECE! And, I declare that David Wain is a living god!

  23. I agree completely. My husband and I are constantly quoting this movie to each other (“As a GOOF!”), and I’m forever recommending it to people. It is by far one of the funniest movies I’ve ever had the pleasure of watching.
