Hi everyone – finally back in NYC after the Stella tour…so much fun! The last show in LA was particularly special, having our State-mates Thomas Lennon and Joe Lo Truglio on stage with us…
SPEAKING OF THE STATE, our whole group is getting back together to present a new live show of all new sketch comedy, January 24 at the San Francisco Sketchfest! If you don’t know what THE STATE is, it’s an eleven member sketch comedy group. We formed at NYU in 1988, and worked together actively until 1997, most notably doing a series “The State” on MTV.
Since then, members of the State have continued to work together in different configurations, conceiving such projects as Reno 911!, Wet Hot American Summer, Viva Variety, The Ten, Balls of Fury, The Baxter, Night at the Museum, Wainy Days, Role Models and more.

The State is:
Kevin Allison, Michael Ian Black, Robert Ben Garant, Todd Holoubek, Michael Patrick Jann, Kerri Kenney-Silver, Thomas Lennon, Joe Lo Truglio, Ken Marino, Michael Showalter and David Wain
Anyway we’ll all be together January 24 at the sketchfest, doing a BRAND NEW SHOW of sketch comedy.
Jan 24, 8pm & 10pm, Eureka Theatre. Tickets go on sale Dec 14th.
Later that night, Michael Showalter and I will be presenting a SCREENING OF WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER along with cast members Janeane Garofalo, Michael Ian Black, Zak Orth, Ken Marino and Joe Lo Truglio.
Jan 24, Midnight, The Clay Theatre, SF
And on Jan 25:
THE STATE TRIBUTE
Sketchfest will host a tribute/conversation/retrospective with all of the members of The State and host Janeane Garofalo.
Jan 25, 2pm, Herbst Theatre, SF
STELLA: THE CLASSIC NIGHTCLUB SHOW
Hosted by Michael Ian Black, Michael Showalter and David Wain, with guests Thomas Lennon, Tig Notaro, Nick Kroll, The Doilies, and house band Wil Blades.
Jan 25, 8pm, Cobb’s Comedy Club, SF
For tickets and all other info, check out the Sketchfest website. This year’s sketchfest also features appearances by Tim & Eric, Robert Smigel, Dana Carvey, Fred Willard, Martin Mull, Upright Citizens Brigade, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, Zach Galifianakis, Jon Hamm and dozens more….
this is one of the better photographs in life.
I already bought tickets for everything. Both opening shows, Wet Hot, Tribute and your Nightclub Show. Yah!
If I was in California I’d be going to all of this. But alas I’m not.
As I said on your last post, it’s always good to see you guys together! Hope the shows go well!
Plus all of this Stella talk makes me think of the future of Stella. Stella the Animated Series perhaps?
Stupid sad smiley isn’t where it should be. This is what I get for trying to digitally display my emotions.
The LA show was AMAZING, as well as the new Stella video. Now that there is a new Stella page on My Damn Channel, are we to expect that you guys are gonna make some new Stella shorts?
Here’s the new Stella video that’s on the My Damn Channel page.

Obama wins. The State AND Stella are back together performing again. Role Models makes bank. Awesome year.
i want to go ahead and agree with karli.
happy to hear and see all of the state/stella activity that’s starting to happen… the los angeles show was great, and i hope the upcoming performances at sketchfest won’t be the last. if i were rich, i would definitely consider taking another trip to california in january.
thanks for sticking around after your show last saturday. it was unexpected, appreciated, and made for an even more memorable night. oh, and as per your recommendation, i will take a look at a map before driving anywhere out of the state from now on.
oh man! Any chance it will be recorded and distributed accordingly?
I just read that you, among others, were involved in cyberbullying/stalking people who had annoyed Amy Sedaris. This type of behaviour eventually resulted in Sedaris being sued when she and others arranged for a man to be video-taped during ‘intimate’ activities with another man, and later strongly implied that the tape would be released publically. I don’t know if you, David Wain, were involved in this particular case, only that you aided and abetted Sedaris in her cyberstalking.
I am thoroughly disgusted to hear this. I am a straight female (not that this makes any difference) who loves to laugh and who paid money to see Role Models recently. Had i known the above, I certainly would not have done so.
I will never financially support any other project in which you are involved again. My money does not support bullies.
You repulse me.
I am concerned about the convoluted cyberstalking event referenced by callie above. I can’t find any coverage from a reputable news source about this besides a very bizarre and jokey article describing an official apology by the Colbert Report, which makes me skeptical. On the other hand, the text of the lawsuit and description of the events provided on the guy’s myspace are convincingly thorough. Is this just an instance of paranoia gone crazy? I might not be able to enjoy Stella as much if this is not straightened out. I may even have to join callie’s Wain boycott.
Is there anyway I could be emailed where I could get tickets for this show?
Looks like tickets are sold out. The stars were almost aligned – getting together for the first time in 12 years in the city where I live. I gave up hoping after 10 years.
On another note, I would hope that they clear up the date of the Screening of Wet Hot American Summer. Midnight on the 24th should technically be BEFORE the 8PM and 10PM showings (by some 20 and 22 hours). Might want to clarify it as Saturday night/Sunday morning.
The State Show at SF sketchfest was amazing!
