In Praise of Elizabeth Banks

After you see Role Models, make sure you then, immediately, next go see Kevin Smith’s movie “Zack & Miri Make a Porno.” In addition to being about a porno, and one of the most laugh-out-loud funniest movies of the year, I haven’t seen any other movie that better portrays the obsessive and fun process of trying to make your first movie, against all odds.
Plus the world of Pittsburgh in the dead of winter was awesome to see, especially for this former Clevelander.
But the best thing in the movie is the unstoppable Elizabeth Banks, who I have been lucky enough to work with on Wet Hot American Summer, Stella, Wainy Days and Role Models. She’s always awesome, but this is the role we’ve been waiting for her to play - she’s hysterically funny, relatable, sexy and the comic lead already.

I have seen both movies and I must say that Role models is more fun. Zack & Miri is funny though and Banks is great in it. It gets extra points too cause it was filmed in my hometown!

I’ve loved Elizabeth since Wet Hot and am thrilled to see her as a lead. No longer will she be simply known as “that chick from Scrubs”… or Betty Brant.

i finally made it to a showing of zack & miri the other day, and you’re absolutely right. elizabeth banks brought so much to the finished product; even within this particular role, where she manages to portray a very genuine, relatable character amidst all of these odd situations and cartoony-type characters. how difficult is it to pull something like that off? i’m not sure there are too many other actresses out there capable of what she is and does consistently with each movie.
